Aims

The aims of the postgraduate nursing programme are to: Aim of the postgraduate programme in nursing is to prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as Clinical Nurse Specialists, Nurse Practitioners, Consultants, Educators, Researchers and Administrators in a wide variety of professional settings.

Objectives

On completion of the 2 year M.Sc. Nursing programme, the graduates will be able to:

  • Apply the concepts, theories and principles of nursing science.
  • Demonstrate competencies in nursing practice.
  • Practice as Clinical Nurse Specialist.
  • Establish collaborative relationship with the members of other disciplines.
  • Assume leadership in various care settings.
  • Participate in health planning, implementation and evaluation at different levels of health care system.
  • Function as effective nurse educators and nurse managers.
  • Conduct independent nursing research and utilize the research findings in nursing practice and education.
  • Critically evaluate various educational programmes in nursing.
  • Demonstrate interest and positive attitude in continuing education for personal and professional growth.

Eligibilty Criteria / Admission Requirements for M.Sc. Nursing

  • The candidate should be a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife with Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council.
  • The minimum educational requirements shall be the passing of regular degree course in Nursing – (B.Sc. Nursing / B.Sc. (Hons). Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing), with minimum of 55% aggregate marks, in an institution which is recognized by Indian Nursing Council.
  • Minimum one year of experience after Basic B.Sc. Nursing. One year compulsory nursing service/internship after successful completion of four year B.Sc Nursing can be considered as experience.
  • Minimum one year of experience prior or after regular Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing.
  • Candidate shall be medically fit.
  • Relaxation of marks for SC/ST candidates may be given as per state government norms.
