Aims
The aims of the postgraduate nursing programme are to: Aim of the postgraduate programme in nursing is to prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as Clinical Nurse Specialists, Nurse Practitioners, Consultants, Educators, Researchers and Administrators in a wide variety of professional settings.
Objectives
On completion of the 2 year M.Sc. Nursing programme, the graduates will be able to:
Apply the concepts, theories and principles of nursing science.
Demonstrate competencies in nursing practice.
Practice as Clinical Nurse Specialist.
Establish collaborative relationship with the members of other disciplines.
Assume leadership in various care settings.
Participate in health planning, implementation and evaluation at different levels of health care system.
Function as effective nurse educators and nurse managers.
Conduct independent nursing research and utilize the research findings in nursing practice and education.
Critically evaluate various educational programmes in nursing.
Demonstrate interest and positive attitude in continuing education for personal and professional growth.
Eligibilty Criteria / Admission Requirements for M.Sc. Nursing
The candidate should be a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife with Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council.
The minimum educational requirements shall be the passing of regular degree course in Nursing – (B.Sc. Nursing / B.Sc. (Hons). Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing), with minimum of 55% aggregate marks, in an institution which is recognized by Indian Nursing Council.
Minimum one year of experience after Basic B.Sc. Nursing. One year compulsory nursing service/internship after successful completion of four year B.Sc Nursing can be considered as experience.
Minimum one year of experience prior or after regular Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing.
Candidate shall be medically fit.
Relaxation of marks for SC/ST candidates may be given as per state government norms.
