Aims and Objectives

Aims

  • Prepare graduates to function as professional, competent nurses and midwives who provide promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative care across diverse healthcare settings.

  • Equip nurses with the ability to make independent clinical decisions, advocate for patients’ rights, and support individuals, families, and communities in achieving and maintaining health. Graduates will be prepared to work effectively in hospital and community settings and contribute to nursing practice through evidence-based research.

  • Develop nursing leaders, educators, and managers who can teach, supervise, and administer nursing services in clinical, public health, and academic environments.

  • Prepare scholars and scientists to advance the profession by fostering inquiry, critical thinking, and the application of research to improve health outcomes, nursing education, and health policy.

Objectives

  • Integrate knowledge from physical, biological, behavioural, and medical sciences — including alternative systems — to provide comprehensive nursing care to individuals, families, and communities.

  • Assess and analyse lifestyle, environmental, and social factors that influence the health of individuals and populations.
  • Provide person-centred nursing care using the systematic nursing process in collaboration with patients, families, and communities.

  • Demonstrate critical thinking and clinical judgment in planning and delivering safe, high-quality care in all healthcare situations.

  • Incorporate current nursing trends, technologies, and informatics into professional practice.

  • Deliver promotive, preventive, restorative, and rehabilitative health services aligned with national health policies and programmes.

  • Practice ethically and professionally within the framework of the nursing code of conduct and regulatory/legal standards.

  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, communities, and health team members to foster collaboration and teamwork.

  • Demonstrate teaching and health education skills in clinical and community settings.

  • Function effectively as part of the multidisciplinary health team in delivering holistic care.

  • Exhibit leadership and management skills in clinical, community, and organisational roles.
